Solid Oak Herringbone Coffee Table
This is a solid oak coffee table with a herringbone design field. The design
is made from handcut solid oak block carefully cut to exactly the same size to
ensure an even, secure table. The oak blocks are fixed together using oval, beech
biscuits joining each of the faces. A curved slot is carved into each face and the biscuit
is glued into both slots on adjoining blocks. I have tested a table of this design
up to a load of 70kg making it strong enough to take most punishment in a well used room
(although I don't recommend placing loads of this weight during actual use).

The blocks are each 35mm deep making the table weighty and solid.
The design was finished with a hand wiped patina covered with a clear lacquer.
The surrounding oak frame is butted together and biscuited to the top surface.
It connects the solid oak legs which are glued, screwed for strength and safety and
then plugged to complete the oak finish.
The table is made to metric measurements of 810mm long, 490mm wide and 385mm
high (approx. 32" long, 19" wide and 15" high)
On a previous sample, to test the strength I actually stood on the design (not recommended) no problem. The thickness of the inset pattern
Is 35mm so it’s very strong. Overall dimensions are L=810 x W=490 x H=385. The finish on the table is a clear lacquer over a hand wiped
Patena.
